Why do motorcycles need a different tracker from cars?

A two-wheeler tracker survives more vibration, water and heat than a car unit, in a smaller housing, on a fraction of the battery. Theft behaviour differs too: a car is driven away, a motorcycle is lifted into a van, so a unit that only wakes on an ignition event misses the incident.

Vibration is continuous, not occasional

Engine and road vibration on a bike runs constantly and at higher frequency than in a car cabin. Skywonder puts drop and vibration testing into final assembly QC, with a pre-shipment report per batch. The install rule: pad the unit on foam rather than hard-bolting it to the frame.

Water and heat sit closer to the device

Waterproof testing on IP65 and IP67 models is part of assembly, so confirm the sealing rating for the exact SKU on its datasheet before a volume order. Mount clear of the exhaust, even when the only free cavity sits right above it.

A small battery to draw from

Bike batteries are small and fleet scooters often stand for days, so a tracker uploading continuously flattens one over a long weekend. Use timed reporting: the GT06 4G exposes positioning frequency as a setting.

The theft pattern you are defending against

  • Lifted or wheeled, never started. The H9 4G arms its vibration alarm after 10 minutes of stillness, then reports on three vibrations in 10 seconds.
  • Power cut first. The H9 uploads a power-failure alarm about 30 seconds after external power is removed; the J02 alarms on illegal power-off.
  • Stripped for parts within hours. The alert must reach a named person on a phone, not a dashboard nobody watches at 03:00.
  • Rider collusion on rental and finance bikes. Geofence exits, mileage counters and route playback catch this; theft alarms do not.

Where do you hide a GPS tracker on a motorcycle?

The three usable locations on most motorcycles and scooters are under the seat, inside the tail fairing, and behind the headlight cowl. Under the seat is the default for wired units: battery, ground and ignition wires all run within reach.

Keep the GPS antenna facing up with plastic above it, never metal. The SW16 bike tracker instead uses a tail-light mount with a quick-release buckle, trading concealment for a tool-free install.

Compliance and consent

Rules on covert tracking, rider notification and remote immobilisation vary from market to market. Name the device, its purpose and the immobilisation conditions in the rental or finance agreement, and check local regulations in every country you deploy in before the first bike is fitted.

  1. 1

Dry-fit before you cut a cable tie

Sit the unit in place, antenna face up, and check clearance to the seat pan, fairing and exhaust. Do this once per bike model, not on all 400 bikes.

  2. 2

    Wire permanent positive and ground

Take permanent positive from the battery terminal or main fuse and ground to a clean chassis bolt. Hard-wired units such as the GT06 4G accept 9-90V DC, covering a 12V two-wheeler system with margin.

  3. 3

    Connect the ignition (ACC) line

Tap the ignition-switched wire so the tracker reports ignition on and off. The J03 uploads ACC on/off status with every packet; see its product page for the full specification.

  4. 4

Fit a relay only where the model supports cut-off

Cut-off needs an external automotive relay driven by the tracker output line. Of the models sold for two-wheelers, the GT03, H9 4G, J02, J03 and GT06 4G list it; the SW16 and SW05 do not, so never quote it there. That is a subset of the canonical cut-off list on the auto finance and BHPH page.

  5. 5

Break the starter or ignition circuit, then test

The starter or ignition circuit is the configuration to specify; a fuel-pump relay has a stronger effect and higher risk, which is why firmware interlocks exist — see the auto finance page. Send the command only to a parked bike; the H9 also cuts only below 20 km/h. Before the bike leaves, test ignition status, a movement report, a vibration alarm, and cut-off followed by restore.

What does "motorcycle GPS tracker no monthly fee" actually mean?

There are three costs in any deployment, and "no monthly fee" removes only one. Hardware is a one-off purchase, SIM data is a recurring operator charge, and the platform may or may not carry a subscription.

The GT06 4G GPS Tracker is sold as a no-monthly-fee model, so ask for the platform terms in writing with the quotation. The SIM is still yours to supply and pay for, and white-label Traqcare commercials are quoted per order.

Data volume is the lever fleets forget

GT06 is binary, not text: a position packet is roughly 30 bytes on the wire against 200-plus for an equivalent NMEA-over-TCP message. Widening the interval while the ignition is off cuts the bill without costing a recovery, because vibration and displacement alarms fire on their own triggers.

Or pay no platform fee at all

The same hardware reports to a server you control, and Skywonder trackers are compatible with third-party platforms such as Traccar, Wialon, Navixy and GPS-Trace. Writing your own decoder? The GT06 protocol guide walks the frame structure, the developer docs cover integration, and Traqcare API notes are at docs.traqcare.com.

How do fleets, rental operators and lenders use these trackers?

Three buyer types dominate two-wheeler orders, each buying a different alert set on broadly the same hardware.

Delivery and courier fleets

Courier fleets buy trackers for dispatch accuracy and shift verification rather than theft: live tracking plus route playback shows whether a rider was where the order log says. The J03 adds driving-behaviour analysis on hard braking, acceleration and sharp turns, plus blind-zone upload while offline.

Rental scooters and sharing operators

Rental operators ask three questions: is the scooter inside the service area, is it moving when it should not be, and how far has it run since service. Geofences answer the first, vibration and displacement alarms the second, the J02 mileage counter the third. It is the car rental workflow, with shorter hires.

Two-wheeler finance and loan recovery

Bike finance in India, Nigeria and Mexico runs on thin margins at high volume, so recovery cost per unit decides whether the book works. A hidden wired tracker with relay output lets the lender find the bike at its overnight stop and immobilise it parked. Consent and disclosure rules match the auto finance and BHPH page.

Worked example: sizing the recovery case

  • F = bikes in the fleet. A = years you amortise a tracker over. D = landed cost of one device, from your quotation.
  • C = SIM plus platform cost per bike per month. L = bikes lost per year today. R = share recovered once tracked. V = replacement value of one bike.
  • Annual cost = F x (D / A + 12C). Annual benefit = L x R x V. Proceed when the second exceeds the first, before counting dispatch gains.
  • Illustrative inputs F = 400, A = 3, L = 10, R = 0.6 put the benefit at 6V a year, so tracking clears when V > 67 x (D / 3 + 12C). Substitute your quoted device cost and operator tariff.

Which alerts matter on a two-wheeler?

On a bike, the alerts that earn their keep fire while the ignition is off. Vibration, displacement, power-failure and geofence events recover stolen scooters; overspeed and driving-behaviour events improve a roster.

  • Vibration alarm. Detects abnormal knocks or dragging; the H9 arms after 10 minutes of stillness. On the H9 4G, GT06 4G and SW05.
  • Displacement alarm. Fires when the bike is moved illegally; on the H9 after ACC-off sleep and a set displacement distance. On the H9 and GT06 4G.
  • Power-failure alarm. H9 uploads about 30 seconds after power is removed; J02 on illegal power-off; J03 below 5V.
  • Geofence. Entry and exit alerts around a depot, service area or borrower address. On the SW16, GT03, H9, GT06 4G and SW05.
  • Overspeed and driving behaviour. Overspeed on the J02, J03, H9 and GT06 4G; driving scores on the J03.
  • Ignition, mileage and playback. ACC status per packet on the J03; mileage on the J02; historical track with speed, direction and dwell time on the GT06 4G; three months of history on the SW05.
  • SOS and voice monitoring. Both listed on the GT03.

What Traqcare adds

Traqcare runs as a web app plus iOS and Android apps, white-labelled to your brand, logo, app name and domain: live tracking, route playback, alerts, geofences, fuel management, reports, device management and user roles. Roles are the under-used part — scope recovery agents to their own list, not the whole fleet.

Ordering motorcycle trackers in volume

MOQ is 50-100 units per model depending on the product; the white-label programme starts at 100 units. Samples are 3-10 units and ship within 5-7 business days by express courier.

In-stock models ship in 3-7 days; custom and high-volume runs take 15-25 days after the deposit. Payment terms, Incoterms and pricing are quoted per order and volume tier.

Hardware carries a 12-month manufacturer warranty covering manufacturing defects. Unopened standard products are returnable within 30 days, buyer paying return shipping and a restocking fee possibly applying; custom and white-label products are non-returnable.

  • Send bike models, target market and quantity to sales. Band support differs by region — the H9 ships in CN, EU and LA variants — so the destination decides it.
  • Take samples and fit them to the actual bikes. Vibration and heat problems surface within a week on a real scooter, never on a spec sheet.
  • Confirm certification scope for your import market. Skywonder devices are manufactured to CE, FCC, PTCRB, IC, RoHS, REACH and ISO 9001 standards, and region-specific certifications and test reports can be provided on request — see certifications.
  • Settle branding with the hardware. The reseller programme and white-label guide cover logo, housing colour, packaging, manuals, serial prefix and APN pre-configuration.
  • Plan the import early: importing from China covers documentation and customs, the MOQ guide explains mixed first batches, the AIS-140 guide covers India, and the best 4G GPS tracker for Africa covers African bands.

Who builds this

Skywonder Technology has manufactured in Shenzhen since 2011: a 5,000+ m2 factory, 200+ staff including 30+ R&D engineers, 20M+ units dispatched to date, ISO 9001 and 100+ countries served. Most two-wheeler buyers are resellers and fleet operators; the fleet management solution and manufacturer overview cover the range.

Frequently asked questions

Is there really a motorcycle GPS tracker with no monthly fee?+

It describes the hardware commercial model, not connectivity: the device is sold outright with no mandatory recurring charge from us, you still buy the SIM data, and hosted platform access is quoted separately. On a bike that means the GT06 4G unit price covers the hardware only, so ask for the platform terms in writing with your quotation.

Where is the best place to hide a tracker on a motorcycle?+

Under the seat is the default for wired units, because battery, ground and ignition wires run there and the seat pan hides the device. The tail fairing and the headlight cowl are the alternatives. Keep plastic above the antenna rather than metal, and keep the unit clear of the exhaust.

Can a motorcycle GPS tracker cut the engine remotely?+

On models with a relay output, yes. Of the two-wheeler shortlist the GT03, H9 4G, J02, J03 and GT06 4G list remote cut-off; the SW16 and SW05 do not. Other models in the range also carry it, and the canonical list is kept on the auto finance and BHPH page. The starter or ignition circuit is the configuration to specify; a fuel-pump relay has a stronger effect and higher risk, which is why firmware interlocks exist — see the auto finance page. Send the command only to a parked bike. The H9 enforces that below 20 km/h.

Will a hard-wired tracker flatten the bike battery?+

It can, on a small two-wheeler battery left standing for days. Configure timed reporting rather than continuous upload when the ignition is off; the GT06 4G exposes positioning frequency as a setting. Displacement and vibration alarms still fire on their own triggers, so a longer interval costs data, not security.

What SIM card do these trackers need?+

A data-enabled SIM in the size the model takes, on a network whose bands the device supports. The H9 ships in separate CN, EU and LA band variants, so name the destination country before ordering. Ask the operator about IoT or M2M plans, which are the usual choice at fleet volumes.

Can I sell these under my own brand for rental scooters?+

Yes. The white-label programme starts at 100 units and covers your logo on the device, housing colour, retail packaging, manuals, a custom serial prefix and pre-configured APN settings. Traqcare white-labels separately to your brand, app name and domain, so riders download an app carrying your name.
